Rok William Wallace Talent Tree Build, Pairings, and Equipments Guide

William Wallace was recently released in Rise of Kingdoms along with another infantry commander, Scipio Aemilianus. We have tested his open-field fighting in the last couple of weeks.

Here is our in-depth guide showing William Wallace’s strengths and weaknesses, and best talent trees and pairings. We will answer questions like who should or shouldn’t invest in him, and whether expertise is necessary.

Is William Wallace worth Investing in?

Well, if you are planning to use him for the open field, then definitely, you should invest in him. Liu Che and Gorgo, two other commanders with smite damage work really well and give great results in open-field fights.

However, He is still not the top priority commander for infantry open field. Scipio Prime and Liu Che remain top field fighters. You can check out the Legendary Commander investment order guide for more details.

If you are an infantry rally leader and want to use him for a rally, then maybe you can avoid him. The current infantry rally meta seems to be the Scipio Amilianus with Tariq ibn Ziyad.

William Wallace Skill Overview upgrade order

5-5-1-5

  1. Active Skill: His Active skill is very powerful; it does 2400 Smite damage. On top of that does another 300 smite damage to 3 enemy troops. That’s a lot of raw damage
  2. Second Skill: The second skill is pretty straightforward; you get 10% infantry health, 30% Infantry Attack, and a crucial 20% infantry March speed.
  3. Third Skill: Now, this skill is not as good as it seems. You get a 10% Normal damage reduction, which is good. Moreover, upon dealing more than 1000 smite damage, there is an 80% chance of increasing damage by 40%. This sounds really great, but the problem is the 10-second cooldown, which makes the skill kind of pointless because it’s just too long to be really effective.
  4. Fourth Skill: This is also a good skill, increasing smite damage and Normal damage both by 10%
  5. Expertise Skill: expertise skill also has the same problem as his 3rd skill. It’s a really powerful skill that removes the slow effects from 3 allied troops and grants a 1000 damage factor shield for 2 seconds. It’s really short time for the shield, and the cooldown is once again very long.

In conclusion, you can upgrade the first skill, then avoid 3rd skill, and try your luck with 4th skill to get the best out of William Wallace. As per the expertise, you can probably avoid it; it doesn’t seem worth it. William Wallace will do fine even without it.

What is Commander William Wallace good at?

William Wallace is good for open-field fighting, especially with smite damage. Currently, smite damage really seems to be working great for open fields. He has huge smite damage on his active skill, along with more bonus damage from his 4th skill.

On paper, he seemed great for rallying with Scipio Amilianus. But that didn’t turn out to be the case. Based on the results we saw, he is not good at rallying.

You can also use him for the canyons; his first skill can be quite good for that scenario. However, he won’t be among the best commanders for canyons because, aside from that skill, he doesn’t have much for that particular game mode.

William Wallace commander pairings

Liu Che (Secondary) – Best for Openfield

Liu Che rise of kingdoms

The number one pairing of William Wallace for open-field is a very obvious one. It would be Liu Che as secondary to him. He is the best smite damage commander for the Openfield. You do have an option for the Gorgo, but Liu Che is much better for field fighting.

Gorgo (Secondary) – Alternate Openfield pairing

gorgo rise of kingdoms

Aside from Liu Che, Gorgo is the other Smite commander that you can pair with William Wallace as a Secondary commander.

This pair won’t be as good as the Liu Che pair, but in case you are using Liu Che with another infantry commander like Scipio Africanus or Alexander the Great, and you want to run multiple infantry marches, then this could be an alternate option

Scipio Aemilianus (Primary) – Alternate Openfield pairing 2

scipio aemilianus rise of kingdom

The newly released Scipio Aemilianus is also very decent for open-field fighting. He also has a pretty good damage factor on his active skill, which will increase even further with William’s 4th skill.

Another good thing is that you don’t need to max Scipio Aemilianus either for this pairing to work. So, A 5,5,5,1 Scipio Aemilianus and a 5,5,1,5 William Wallace, and you will have yourself a pretty good infantry march for the open field.
