The Ruins of Lordaeron is one of the early-game dungeons in World of Warcraft: Forever, taking you into the remains of the former capital of Lordaeron.
It’s located above the Undercity in Tirisfal Glades; this dungeon features undead enemies, hidden encounters, several faction-specific quests, and valuable equipment for characters progressing through the early levels.
You will need groups of five players, and the dungeon is intended for characters around levels 15-20.
It features six main bosses, including Rath’mael, the final encounter. You can also discover additional encounters by exploring the dungeon rather than simply following the main route.
This guide covers the dungeon’s location, all major bosses, quest objectives, and notable rewards to help you complete the Ruins of Lordaeron without missing important content.

Unlike many traditional dungeons, the Ruins of Lordaeron has a relatively non-linear layout. You can explore different sections, encounter bosses in different orders, and discover hidden encounters along the way.
Ruins of Lordaeron Location and Entrance
The Ruins of Lordaeron is located in Tirisfal Glades, directly above the Undercity. The dungeon entrance can be found in the ruined city, near the main courtyard.
Horde players have a much easier journey because the dungeon is close to their capital. Players starting in Orgrimmar can take the zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades and travel towards the Undercity.
Alliance players have a considerably longer journey. One route is to travel from Stormwind to Auberdine, continue to Menethil Harbor, and then take the route towards Southshore.
From there, you must travel through Hillsbrad Foothills and Silverpine Forest before reaching Tirisfal Glades.
Make sure your group is assembled before travelling, particularly if you are playing an Alliance character.
All Bosses in Ruins of Lordaeron
The dungeon contains six main boss encounters: Witherfang, The Baron, Viktor the Vile, The Abandoned, Bjork, and Rath’mael. There is also a rare encounter called Lordaeron Captain.
1. Witherfang
Witherfang is one of the first bosses you will encounter. It patrols King’s Alley alongside two additional spider enemies.
The encounter is relatively straightforward, but you should clear the surrounding enemies before engaging the boss.
Witherfang uses Leech Poison, which affects the tank and makes healing more important during the fight.
The best approach is to let the tank establish threat before the DPS players begin attacking. Defeat Witherfang first and then deal with the two accompanying enemies.
Loot:
- Atrophic Girdle – Mail Waist
- Segmented Spider Leg – Two-Handed Staff
- Witherbite Bracers – Leather Wrist
2. The Baron
The Baron is a dangerous encounter because of his powerful melee attacks and Knockout ability.
This attack deals substantial damage and can stun the tank, making it particularly threatening when the tank is already low on health.
Healers should keep the tank’s health as high as possible throughout the encounter. Players with stun abilities should use them to interrupt his dangerous attacks whenever possible.
Avoid rushing this encounter without clearing the surrounding skeletal enemies.
Loot:
- Meathook Slicer – One-Handed Dagger
- Abomination Bones – Mail Chest
- Leftover Abomination Skin – Cloth Chest
3. Viktor the Vile (Hidden Boss)
Viktor the Vile is an optional boss that you can easily miss if you follow only the main dungeon route.
To summon him, travel to the building southwest of Lordamere Overlook, near the Lordaeron Graveyard. Interact with the chimney inside the building to activate the encounter.
The event consists of five waves of enemies, with Viktor appearing after the waves are completed. You should conserve your mana and health because there is very little time to recover between waves.
Once Viktor appears, the tank should establish threat immediately. He deals considerable melee damage and also uses Leech Poison, making this encounter similar to Witherfang.
Loot:
- Vileblood Scimitar – One-Handed Sword
- Bloodied Chestwraps – Leather Chest
- Vilewalkers – Mail Feet
4. The Abandoned (Hidden Boss)
The Abandoned is another encounter that requires you to activate an event before the boss appears.
Travel to Market Square from Lordamere Overlook and interact with the statue in the area. This triggers three waves of enemies, followed by The Abandoned on the fourth wave.
The boss has several abilities that you need to watch out for. Frost Nova can immobilise nearby players, while his Chilled effect makes melee combat more difficult. He also uses Life Drain against the tank.
You should interrupt or stun him when he begins casting Life Drain. The healer should pay attention to the tank’s health during this encounter.
Loot:
- Scepter of the Abandoned – Main-Hand Mace
- Grip of Fear – Mail Hands
- Rotmender’s Leggings – Cloth Legs
5. Bjork
Bjork patrols the central area of the Ruins of Lordaeron. Compared with some of the other encounters, this boss is relatively easy to defeat.
His primary ability is Anti-Magic Shield, which lasts approximately three seconds. It provides temporary protection against magical attacks, so spellcasters should be prepared to adjust their damage during this short window.
The bigger danger is the surrounding enemies. Ghouls in the area can deal considerable damage, and accidentally pulling additional groups can make the encounter much harder.
Clear the nearby enemies before engaging Bjork.
Loot:
- Corpse Chopper – Two-Handed Axe
- Bonerust Leggings – Mail Legs
- Tuskwrap Belt – Cloth Waist
6. Rath’mael (Final Boss)
Rath’mael is the final boss of the Ruins of Lordaeron and the main target of the Horde quest The Wrath of Rath’mael.
Despite being the final encounter, Rath’mael is not that difficult when you understand his primary ability.
He uses Flamestrike, which targets the location where the tank was standing when the cast began.
You should move away from the targeted area as soon as the ability starts casting. Stuns can also prevent him from completing the cast.
Keep the tank’s threat stable and avoid standing in Flamestrike. Once Rath’mael is defeated, the group will have completed all six main boss encounters.
Loot:
- Mirror of Rath’mael – Shield
- Coldspire Staff – Two-Handed Staff
- Rotmender’s Treads – Cloth Feet
Lordaeron Captain – Rare Boss
Apart from the six main bosses, you can also encounter Lordaeron Captain, a rare boss in the dungeon.
This encounter is not part of the standard six-boss progression. Its rare boss means you should not expect to find it during every dungeon run.
If you encounter Lordaeron Captain while exploring, make sure the group is prepared before engaging.
Lordaeron Captain is a Level 19 Rare Elite found in the western section of the dungeon. He patrols alongside Skeletal Soldiers, so clear the surrounding enemies before engaging him.
The fight itself is straightforward, with no complicated mechanics to worry about.
Let the tank establish threat while the DPS players focus on dealing damage. He is friendly to Alliance players, meaning only Horde characters can attack him.
Loot:
- Haunting Blade – Two-Handed Sword
- Phantom Armor – Chest Armor

Bloodied Insignias drop from undead enemies, so make sure you loot the skeletons and other undead mobs during the run.
Remember That I Love You requires players to find a Blood-Stained Letter near Rath’mael and return it to Orphan Matron Nightingale in Stormwind City.
Where to Find the Crest of Lordaeron
Crest of Lordaeron is a special quest item that can appear at multiple locations throughout the dungeon. Both Horde and Alliance players have a quest associated with finding it.
There are three reported spawn locations
- Near The Baron: Check behind an interactable door close to The Baron’s boss area.
- Near Bjork: Search the building located close to Bjork’s patrol route.
- Gargoyle Rooftops: Explore the pathways along the walls where Gargoyles are positioned. The Crest can appear towards the ends of these pathways.
Since the item has multiple possible spawn points, explore these areas instead of assuming it will always appear in the same location.
