New Ragnar Lodbrok Prime was recently in the Rise of Kingdoms. Not to confuse him with the original Ragnar Lodbrok who is available through gold keys. Both are legendary infantry commanders, seriously Lilith better commander naming system, please!
Anyway, Here is our in-depth guide showing Ragnar Prime’s strengths and weaknesses, and best talent trees and pairings. We will answer questions like who should or shouldn’t invest in him, and whether expertise is necessary.
Is Ragnar Lodbrok Prime worth Investing in?
Well, If you are looking for a new infantry commander for the open field then definitely, you should invest in him. He is extremely versatile commander and can do quite a lot of damage.
Early battle reports have also shown that is quite powerful in KvK for Open field battles, especially when you pair him with the right commanders.
Ragnar Prime Skill Overview upgrade order
5-5-5-5(expertise)
- Active Skill(Raven’s Fury): His Active skill is very powerful, it does 2000 direct damage to 3 enemy troops. (-15% damage per additional enemy targets) On top of that it deals another 300 direct damage to current enemy troops. That’s a lot of raw damage
- Second Skill(Ride the Whale-road): The second skill is pretty straightforward, you get 40% infantry defense, 10% Infantry March speed, and a powerful 10% Normal damage reduction buff.
- Third Skill(Sea-King): Now, this is a quite unique skill. It has 30% to use the “Drain effect”. The drain effect reduces the enemy’s stats at the same time increases your stats an equal amount. With this effect, you can reduce the enemy’s attack by 20% and March speed by 30%. You also receive these stats at the same time. When you combine both buff and debuff from this skill it becomes an extremely powerful skill.
- Fourth Skill(In Odin’s Hall): This is also a good skill, it gives you a 15% skill damage boost and at the same time gets a 25% skill damage taken reduction for your troops.
- Expertise Skill(Enhanced Raven’s Fury): His expertise skill boosts his Active skill Raven’s Fury. Instead of a 2000 damage factor, you get a 2200 damage factor but that’s not the impressive part. Once you unlock expertise, All troops take an additional 300 damage instead of just one enemy troop. This change can significantly boost damage output
Every single skill of Ragar Prime is designed especially for open-field fighting. All skills are very strong so there is no need for a skill upgrade order. However, make sure to max out his active skill before anything else. After that, you can upgrade them however you like.
The expertise skill may not look that powerful but it does make a huge difference especially when you are fighting multiple marches. So, it’s definitely worth upgrading.
What is Commander Ragnar Lodbrok Prime good at?
Of course, Ragnar Prime is great at open field. aside from that he will be also good for Canyon because of his drain skill and AOE damage.

Ragnar Prime Commander pairings
These commanders work well with William Wallace
Liu Che (Secondary) – Best for Openfield

The number one pairing of Ragnar Prime for open-field is a very obvious one. It would be Liu Che as secondary to him. He is the best infantry commander in the game for the Openfield. Both of these commanders do lots of AOE damage, great defensive capabilities, march speed, and lots of attack boosts. Together they are perfectly balanced infantry March for the Openfield.
Scipio Prime (Secondary) – Alternate Openfield pairing

Another commander with whom Ragnar Prime works pretty well is the Scipio Prime. He was the top infantry commander before the Liu Che. He has quite a lot of synergy with Ragnar Prime
Both commanders have three March AOE with lots of damage factors at the same time and also have skill damage taken reduction and other defensive buffs.
If you or your allies are using a commander like Guan Yu who can silence enemy troops then synergy becomes even stronger. Scipio Prime can gain Rage 30% faster and Ragnar Prime’s 4th skill deals more damage when the rage meter reaches 70%. All in all, they can pump out quite a lot of damage together, while being tanky at the same time.
