Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 vs Snapdragon 865 Full benchmark comparison

There many Smartphone chipset-making brands in the market. However, We all can agree that major Smartphone companies prefer to use Snapdragon processors in their devices. Recently POCO X3 Pro was launched with Snapdragon 860.

POCO X3 Pro is the first Smartphone to have this Processor. Realme X7 Pro player is also Rumoured to have it. So, We were just wondering how well Snapdragon 860 stacks up against Snapdragon 865, which was Qualcomm’s previous flagship chipset.

First up, let’s go ahead and take a look at specifications.

Benchmarks

AnTuTu

POCO X3 Pro with Snapdragon 860 has managed to score 4,87,423 on AnTuTu benchmarks. Xiaomi Mi 10T, which has Snapdragon 865 has scored 6,29,283 on AnTuTu. Clearly, 865 is ahead, but let’s not draw any conclusions yet because there also a difference in the price between both devices.

Geekbench 5 single core and multi-core

On Geekbench 5, Snapdragon 860 has 739 points in single-core and 2653 in multi-core benchmarks. The Snapdragon 865 scores 918 on single-core and 3370 on multi-core.

CPU and GPU

Both are 7nm octa-core processors, however, Snapdragon 860 has Cortex-A76 which runs at 2.96GHz while Snapdragon 865 has Cortex-A77 which runs at 2.84GHz. They also have a 3x 2.42 GHz secondary core and 4x 1.8 GHz efficiency cores.

The GPU is a very important aspect of the smartphone for gamers. Snapdragon 860 has Adreno 640 and 865 has Adreno 650 GPU. The Adreno 650 has 25% performance improvements over the Adreno 640 as well as it’s more power efficient too. They both support direct X12 and Elite gaming features.

Connectivity

The first question many people are asking is that does Snapdragon 860 supports the 5G network. Well, yes Snapdragon 860 is a 5G connectivity-ready chipset. However, the 5G modem is X50 compared to X55 in Snapdragon 865. They both have Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.

AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more and more relevant nowadays and Snapdragon is betting heavily on it. AI can help out smartphones in many ways, for example taking better pictures and improving battery life by analyzing different tasks in smartphones.

The Snapdragon 865 has DSP hexagon 698, which has scored 53.8 on the AI benchmark. There is no AI benchmark data for Snapdragon 860. However, Snapdragon 855+, which also has the same DSP Hexagon 690, has managed to score 52.0 points on the AI benchmark. For AI performance both seem to be going neck to neck.

Price

You can’t really compare the price for the chipset directly. However POCO X3 Pro costs $308/ Rs. 18,999/£270. The cheapest Smartphone with Snapdragon 865, Mi 10T costs $409/Rs. 29,990/£341.

Verdict

So, which one is better. Well, in terms of raw performance Snapdragon 865 is a clear winner. But what about value for money? Snapdragon 860 scores 33% less on AnTuTu, performance 20% less in single-core and 22% less in multi-core. But on the other hand, it cost 43% less than Snapdragon 865. So it wins a value for money battle.
