Choe Yeong is a new legendary archer garrison commander in Rise of Kingdoms.
Is he worth investing in? Does Choe make any changes to the current garrison meta?
In this guide you will find Choe Yeong’s talent tree builds, best commander pairings, best equipments, formations, and pretty much anything you need to know
What is Commander Choe Yeong good at?
Choe Yeong is good commander for Archer Garrison because his skills and talent tree is designed for that perticular task. He could also be a decent commander for Open field fighting.
Choe Yeong Skill Overview
Ever Faithful (Active Skill)
Required Rage: 1000
Her active skill is similar to Shajar al-Durr’s.
It deals 80% of health strength as true damage to up to 5 enemies(damage reduced by 15% for additional targets. AOE is always great, However, this skill will be only good when you pair him with Shajar.
Additionally, He also heals for 1400 healing factor. The healing factor is good but healing is not the strongest stat in the game. Overall, it is a good skill for Openfield, but not that great for garrison.
Defender of Hongsan (2nd skill)
This is a pretty straightforward skill, your troops get 35% Archer defense and 5% March speed. You also receive 10% normal damage when your March only have Archer units.
Archer’s defense is nice, but the March speed bonus is too low, and normal damage isn’t that helpful for the archer troop type.
Guardian of Goryeo (3rd skill)
This skill makes your troops take 20% less normal damage. This is great because lots infantry commanders do normal damage.
When Choe is serving as garrison commander, He has a 20% chance to remove the attacker’s(normally rally attack) health and defense buff for 5 seconds.
This can be quite powerful if both commanders can fire off active skills during this debuff.
White-Haired Warrior(4th skill)
Whenever Choe Yeong is attacked by a rally he does two things:
First, increases all healing he receives by 40%. This can be great when paired with other healing commanders.
Second, when active skill is used, the target loses 10% health for 7 seconds. This can stake up to 5 times. So, at maximum stacks, the target loses 100% health.
His 3rd skill already removes health buffs and this skill removes health. Together it can be quite powerful debuff. Enemy March will have health debuff almost all the time.
Vengeance of Jeokbun(expertise)
His troops deal 25% more counter damage and if the enemy march(normally rally) has fewer troops than his troops then counter damage is increased by 15%
So, in total, he can deal up to 40% counter damage. This is great for making your garrison swarmproof.
Is Choe Yeong worth Investing in?
If you are Archer Main who handles the garrison for your alliance, then yes you definitely need Choe Yeong, He is the current garrison meta and reports have already proved it.
However, if you are looking to use him for open field then maybe you can just avoid him, there are far better archer commanders in the game, like Zhuge Liang or Harmann Prime.
Skill upgrade order
5-5-1-5(expertise)
Well, if you are planning to use him for garrison there is no doubt you need to unlock his expertise skill right away.
However, if you want to use him for an open field with Shajar al-Durr, then you can just upgrade him to 5,5,1,1 and he will be good to go.
His 3rd and 4th skills are specifically designed for garrison and don’t have any value in open-field fighting.
Expertise does have some potential for Openfield but it won’t be worth it to max out two useless skills just to unlock expertise skill.
Choe Yeong Talent Tree builds
Below you will find the best Talent Tree of Choe Yeong for both the Garrison and Openfield scenario.
The Best Talent Tree for Garrison

Mostly Dido will be the primary for the Choe Garrison pairing, however, if you are looking to use Heraclius as secondary to Choe than you can use this garrison build.
The Best Talent Tree for Open-Field

This talent tree is designed for Openfield, more specifically when used with Shajar al-Durr. It has a maxed-out defense tree which can help you with city pop-ups.
the remaining points are used in the archer tree to pick up skills like phoenix-tail Arrows which can boost direct damage. It’s great talent since both commanders deal direct damage.
Choe Yeong commander pairings
The best commander pairing of Choe Yeong for both garrison and openfield
Shajar al-Durr (Secondary) – Openfield

Choe Yeong’s skill is designed in a way that only one commander can pair nicely with him for the Openfield march.
It’s the newly released Archer, Shajar al-Durr. Both of these commanders were launched together and have great synergy in their active skills.
This pair is definitely usable as a secondary archer march but it won’t be anywhere close to being as good as Zhuge Liang and Hermann Prime pairing.
However, You can use Choe Yeong just by leveling him up to 5,5,1,1 and Shajar by just leveling her to 5,1,1,5.
It’s an excellent value march to use for City pop-ups with very low legendary commander sculpture investment.
Heraclius(Secondary) – Against infantry Rally

Heraclius is one of the strongest garrison commanders in the game.
So, it’s no surprise that he works well with the Choe Yeong for Archer Garrison. KvK battle reports have already confirmed that this garrison is a doom of infantry rallies.
However, this garrison is only impressive against infantry, it performs quite poorly against archers and absolutely worse against cavalry.
Luckily, there is another garrison pair for Choe Yeong that can fix this problem.
Dido (Primary) – Against Archer and Cavalry Rally

As you might know, Dido has been Archer Garrison meta for a while now and that trend will continue with the release of Choe Yeong.
Despite Choe’s weird skill mechanics, He works really well with Dido. This garrison gives better trades against the Archer rally and trades almost similarly against the Cavalary rally.
The reason you want to use Dido as the primary is because of her support tree, which can further help Choe’s healing skills. If reinforced properly this garrison can be an absolute menace in the KvK.
