Every new player in Rise of Kingdoms dreams about unlocking the tier 5 troops. Why wouldn’t they? It’s the most powerful unit in the game right now. However, unlocking tier 5 troops in ROK can be quite a long and tiresome task for some players.
Luckily, we have created this guide with tips and tricks to help you unlock tier 5 troops very quickly. It will save you from all the guesswork and save lots of your speed-ups and resources.
Requirements to unlock Tier 5 troops
Before we go any further, you need to know all the requirements you need to meet to get your hands on the tier 5 troops.
If you aim to get Tier 5 troops in Rise of Kingdoms, here’s what you must do. First, ensure every building in your city is upgraded to level 25. That includes your academy and city hall – get those to level 25 ASAP because they’re super important.
Now, what time does it take to research Tier 5 troops? Well, it depends on a bunch of things. For instance, if you’re part of a strong alliance, that can speed things up. Also, how much you’re willing to spend on the game makes a difference. If you’re playing for free, it may take longer. And, of course, how active you are in the game plays a big role too.
Building requirements
Castle: This is one of the biggest requirements. You need to destroy a ton of forts to collect books – like a lot. You will need over 20,000 Books of Covenant, which isn’t a small task. You can either grind for these by taking down forts or, if you’re okay with spending, use your gems, especially during those “More than Gems” events.
We have already created a separate guide to max out the castle in Rise of Kingdoms. Be sure to check that out for more information.
Watchtower: For this, you need arrows, but they’re way easier to get compared to the Book of Covenant for the castle. So don’t waste gems on them. The best way to get them? Kill barbarians during the Lohar trial event. You get a necklace with random items, including lots of arrows.
Other Buildings: Before you can upgrade your academy to level 25, you need to upgrade every other building to level 25. However, the biggest challenge is that you need a blueprint to upgrade the building from level 24 to 25.
In total, you need 16 buildings before you can upgrade the academy, and every single blueprint costs 2000 gems. So, you will need 32,000 gems to upgrade all the buildings.
Academy: This is your final stop for getting Tier 5 units. Once you upgrade this building, you will be able to research tier 5 troops.

Bonus tip: Finishing T5 troop research gives you lots of power. So if you finish it during the event that requires you to power up(MGE, for example), you can get lots of rewards.
Do you really need T5?
The answer is yes and no. How? Allow me to explain.
First up, Tier 5 (T5) units are much more powerful compared to Tier 4 (T4) units. You can clearly notice a difference in the base stats of both troops. You can wipe out your enemies with T5 significantly faster compared to T4. However, the downside is that it’s also much costlier to train the T5, and the same goes for healing them.
The cost of training and Healing is so high that it might be unsustainable for F2P players in the long term. T4 troops are not bad either; with the right commander pairings, you can definitely achieve good results, just not as good as a T5.
So, if you are a P2W player or a really active player with secondary farm accounts, then T5 is definitely a better choice for you. However, if you are a casual F2P player who plays for fun, then T4 will be a better option.
Should you unlock VIP 10 first or T5?
This is the most common question every beginner has in Rise of Kingdoms. Once you reach VIP level 10, you start receiving 1 legendary commander sculpture every day.
Upgrading VIP levels costs gems, and so does the Book of the Covenant, which is essential for upgrading the castle and unlocking tier 5 troops. So, it could be quite confusing where you should spend your gems first.
We suggest that you go for the VIP level 10 first, as it’s much harder to get a legendary sculpture than to get a book of covenant. Furthermore, T5 won’t be of any use if you don’t have a good legendary commander leading them.
That’s it for this guide. If this has helped you, then don’t forget to give it the rating below, it will help us:)
