
Sony held State of Play showcases of 2026 on September 3, with not one but two back-to-back presentations.
The regular State of Play focused on PlayStation Studios and major third-party games, while State of Play Japan brought additional announcements and gameplay from Japanese and Asian developers.
Across both broadcasts, PlayStation revealed new games, confirmed release dates, showed off major expansions, and delivered fresh updates on some of its biggest upcoming titles.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets April 2027 Release Date
The biggest announcement of the showcase was saved for last.
Square Enix finally confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, exclusively on PS5.
The game is the third and final instalment in the Final Fantasy VII remake project and received an extensive gameplay presentation during the State of Play.
The footage showed a significantly expanded world, with players able to explore areas using the Highwind, grapple guns and chocobos.
Square Enix also showed off the game’s FITS combat system and new character synergies.
With the release date now locked in, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be one of the biggest PS5 releases of 2027.
Marvel’s Wolverine Gets Launch Trailer

Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine received its final major trailer ahead of launch.
The game is scheduled to release on September 15, 2026, for PS5, meaning we are now less than two weeks away from getting our hands on it.
The new trailer provided another look at Logan’s story, combat, and several characters, including Jean Grey, Team X, Sentinels, and other familiar faces.
The trailer also offered additional glimpses at the game’s villains and allies as Wolverine prepares for his latest adventure.
Ghost of Yōtei Adds Most Wanted Mode

Sucker Punch isn’t finished with Ghost of Yōtei.
The studio announced Most Wanted, a new combat survival mode coming as part of the game’s Complete Edition on October 1.
The mode puts you against waves of enemies and challenging boss encounters while offering new weapons, cosmetics, and playable characters as rewards.
State of Play Japan also provided a fresh look at Echoes of Sekigahara, a narrative expansion exploring Atsu’s past and her experiences during the Battle of Sekigahara.
Both Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara arrive on October 1 as part of the Complete Edition.
Until Dawn 2 Launches in January 2027

Fans of PlayStation’s horror games also received a major update. Until Dawn 2 will launch on January 28, 2027, for PS5.
The sequel follows the Dead True crew as they investigate supernatural events, returning to Blackwood Sanitorium before travelling to Akishima Island.
As expected from the franchise, your choices will once again play a major role, with decisions affecting the story and its characters.
Pre-orders open September 10, with a Digital Deluxe Edition also announced.
Metro 2039 Reveals PS5 Pro Gameplay

4A Games brought Metro 2039 back into the spotlight with the first console gameplay footage.
The footage was captured on PS5 Pro, giving us a look at the survival shooter’s post-apocalyptic Moscow setting and its combination of exploration, stealth, combat, and survival mechanics.
Metro 2039 will launch on February 4, 2027, for PS5.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Revealed

Capcom unveiled more details about Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the massive expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds.
The expansion is coming to PS5 in 2027 and will introduce a new location, new monsters, additional hunting mechanics, and another chapter in the Expedition Team’s story.
One of the biggest reveals was Gundoraja, a newly revealed Elder Dragon. You will also get to travel to the new Skybound Eyrie area, where you will encounter new threats and challenges.
Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 through a demo featuring a hunt against the new monster Arakeeta.
Gran Turismo 7 Gets Huge Spec IV Update

Gran Turismo 7 isn’t slowing down as the franchise approaches its 30th anniversary.
Polyphony Digital announced a two-part Spec IV update arriving later in 2026.
The update will have the following:
- Two new circuits
- 12 new cars
- Online Drift Trials
- Shuffle Races
- Family Mode
- Additional content and features
The updates will be split between October and December, giving Gran Turismo 7 players plenty of new content to look forward to.
Final Fantasy Resonance Demo Available Now

Square Enix also surprised fans with a playable demo for Final Fantasy Resonance.
The demo contains the game’s entire first chapter, and progress can be transferred to the full game.
The game launches on October 22, 2026, and the latest trailer also revealed that Sephiroth will appear as an optional challenge. Players who defeat him can unlock a special reward.
Final Fantasy Resonance uses HD-2D visuals alongside a turn-based combat system and a job system inspired by classic Final Fantasy games.
Rhapsody in Scarlet Announced

Konami revealed Rhapsody in Scarlet, a brand-new action-adventure game coming to PS5.
The game is a fantastical version of 1920s New York City with jazz, magic and supernatural creatures.
You take control of Magus Ellie Myers, who becomes caught up in a mystery involving a shadowy mafia organisation.
The game features fast-paced combat built around customizable combos, magic abilities and beast powers. A release date has not yet been announced.
Uncanyon Is a New PS5 Puzzle Adventure

Graceful Decay, the developer behind Maquette, revealed Uncanyon.
The game is a puzzle-focused adventure set in a world created by converging parallel realities.
You can manipulate these realities, changing the environment and combining different versions of the world to solve puzzles and progress.
Uncanyon is coming to PS5 in 2027.
Maneater 2 Announced

Tripwire Interactive revealed Maneater 2, the sequel to the 2020 shark RPG.
This time, You play a bull shark trapped inside an extravagant private island theme park.
The goal remains pretty straightforward: eat, explore, and evolve while trying to escape.
Maneater 2 is scheduled to arrive on PS5 in 2027.
Where the Seeds Fall Launches in November

Cygames introduced its new CygamesEdge label alongside its first game, Where the Seeds Fall.
The action-adventure game follows a soldier and a mysterious Fell Child as they descend the World Tree towards a surface devastated by the Blight.
Where the Seeds Fall launches on November 5, 2026, for PS5.
Fate/Extra Record Gets Release Date

The full remake of Fate/Extra finally has a release date.
Fate/Extra Record launches on January 28, 2027, for PS5 and PS4.
The remake features an expanded version of the Moon Holy Grail War and a revamped Command Card-based battle system designed to add more strategic depth to combat.
Rev. Noir Returns With New Gameplay

Konami also showed more of Rev. Noir, the action RPG that originally debuted during February’s State of Play.
The latest footage provided a deeper look at the game’s combat and story, following Asch and Finé as they attempt to prevent the catastrophic event known as the Lightfall.
Rev. Noir is now confirmed for 2027.
Saros Gets Major Free Update

Housemarque’s Saros is also getting a substantial update later this year.
The free Saros Zenith update introduces Overlord Rush, a mode where you can fight campaign bosses back-to-back while competing against players around the world.
It also adds Eclipse Layers, a New Game Plus mode featuring new modifiers and progression options.
Accessibility improvements are coming as well, including an option to slow down the game’s speed.
LEGO PlayStation Set Revealed

Not every announcement was about games.
Sony revealed an official LEGO PlayStation set celebrating the original PlayStation console.
The 1,911-piece set recreates the original console and controller at almost 1:1 scale and measures around 10.5 inches (26cm) wide when assembled.
The LEGO PlayStation launches October 1, 2026.

The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes: The franchise’s first console game is announced for PS5 in 2027, featuring roguelite action and an original story.
Daba: Land of Water Scar: The China Hero Project title is coming to PS5 in spring 2027.
CONQ: Crown of No Quarter: A new shared-world warfare game was revealed, featuring large-scale battles across land and sea.
World Phasebound Control Authority: WPCA: A new action RPG set in Seoul was announced for PS5 in 2028.
Rematch x Blue Lock: Sloclap’s football game is getting a Blue Lock collaboration on September 24.

GTA 6 Also Gets PlayStation Hardware Treatment

While there was no major new gameplay reveal for Grand Theft Auto VI, Sony did show off two new limited-edition DualSense controllers inspired by Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster.
The designs are themed around Vice City and add another piece of GTA 6 merchandise for PlayStation fans to look forward to.
PlayStation’s September 2026 Showcase Was Packed
Sony’s September State of Play was much bigger than a typical showcase because the company combined two events into one day.
The main presentation delivered major updates for games such as Marvel’s Wolverine, Ghost of Yōtei, Metro 2039, Gran Turismo 7, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation, while State of Play Japan added even more games and deeper looks at Japanese and Asian projects.
The biggest takeaway, however, is the sheer number of games now filling out the PS5’s 2026 and 2027 calendar.
With Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Until Dawn 2, Metro 2039, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Fate/Extra Record, and several new IPs now confirmed, PlayStation has given fans plenty to keep an eye on heading into 2027.
