Halo: Campaign Evolved Preview – Master Chief Returns in a Stunning Remake of the Xbox Classic

Microsoft and Halo Studios have officially unveiled Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the legendary Halo: Combat Evolved, bringing Master Chief’s original adventure to a new generation of players.

The announcement was one of the biggest reveals from the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, confirming that the iconic sci-fi shooter will launch on July 28, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.

A Complete Remake, Not Just a Remaster

Unlike 2011’s Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo: Campaign Evolved is being rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5.

Halo Studios describes the project as a faithful recreation of the original campaign with modern visuals, improved animations, enhanced audio, and updated gameplay systems.

You can experience fully remastered environments, re-recorded dialogue, updated cinematics, refined controls, and visual effects that take advantage of modern hardware.

The remake will preserve the spirit of the 2001 classic while making it more accessible for today’s audience.

Brand-New Story Content: Operation METEORITE

One of the biggest surprises is the addition of Operation METEORITE, a three-mission prequel storyline set a year before the events of the original game.

The new missions follow Master Chief and Sergeant Major Avery Johnson as they infiltrate a Covenant vessel and uncover new threats before humanity’s first encounter with Halo.

These missions are entirely new content created specifically for the remake and are designed to expand the Halo universe while providing fresh experiences for longtime fans.

New Gameplay Features and Vehicles

Halo Studios is also introducing several gameplay enhancements. You will gain access to additional weapons from later Halo games, new enemy encounters, and expanded vehicle options.

Some missions will even feature large-scale space combat sequences and allow you to pilot alien vehicles that were previously unavailable in the original campaign.

Devs are planning to modernize the gameplay experience without losing the classic feel that made Halo: Combat Evolved one of the best first-person shooters ever created.

Co-Op Returns

Cooperative play remains a major focus for the remake. Halo: Campaign Evolved will support two-player split-screen co-op on consoles and up to four-player online co-op with cross-platform play and progression across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation.

However, Halo Studios has confirmed that the game will not include traditional PvP multiplayer. Instead, the development team has chosen to focus entirely on delivering the best possible campaign and cooperative experience.

Halo Comes to PlayStation for the First Time

Perhaps the most historic aspect of the announcement is that Halo: Campaign Evolved will mark the franchise’s debut on PlayStation.

For the first time in Halo history, PlayStation 5 players will be able to experience Master Chief’s original adventure alongside Xbox and PC users.

The move reflects Microsoft’s growing multiplatform strategy and opens the Halo franchise to an entirely new audience.

Release Date, Platforms, and Pre-Order

Halo: Campaign Evolved launches on July 28, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass. Premium and Collector’s Edition owners will receive up to five days of early access beginning on July 23. Pre-orders are available now.
