Snapdragon 780g chipset was released by Qualcomm back in 2021. However, we haven’t really seen many Snapdragon 780g phones since then. There were two main reasons behind that
One of the Xiaomi executives had revealed the Weibo that production of snapdragon 780g was very low due to the unavailability of chips.
The other reason was that the replacement was available from Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 778g had a similar processor and characteristic to the snapdragon 780g.
Snapdragon 780g is a 5nm chipset while snapdragon 778g is a 6nm chipset. So there is absolutely no doubt that Snapdragon 778g is less powerful and less energy efficient.
However, when you look at the real-world usage of both chipsets in the smartphone, it didn’t really make much of a difference.
So, obviously, smartphone companies were ready to settle for snapdragon 778g which also offered 5g connectivity.
These were the reasons why we didn’t see many Snapdragon 780g phones. However, it’s worth mentioning that Mi 11 Lite is one of the rare smartphones that use this chipset.
