OnePlus 16: Everything We Know So Far About OnePlus’ Next Flagship

The OnePlus 16 is one of the most interesting Android flagships of 2026, at least on paper.

OnePlus has yet to officially announce the phone, but a growing number of leaks have revealed details about its processor, battery, display and cameras.

And this time, OnePlus appears to be going all-in on hardware. A 9,000mAh battery, up to 185Hz display and a 200MP camera are among the biggest upgrades currently being tipped.

There is, however, one major question mark: where will the OnePlus 16 actually launch? Here’s everything we know so far.

Editor’s note: OnePlus has not officially confirmed most of these specifications. Treat the details below as leaks and rumours until the company makes them official.

OnePlus 16 Expected Release Date

The OnePlus 16 is currently expected to launch in China in October 2026.

Earlier rumours suggested that OnePlus could move its flagship launch forward to September, but more recent leaks point towards an October launch window, similar to the company’s previous flagship schedule.

OnePlus itself has not confirmed a launch date yet.

The timing also makes sense from a chipset perspective. Qualcomm is expected to unveil its next-generation Snapdragon flagship platform at Snapdragon Summit 2026, scheduled for September 22-24, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 expected to be part of the event.

What about an India launch?

This is where things get messy.

OnePlus has publicly said that India remains one of its most important markets and that its business in the country continues as normal.

However, several reports have claimed that the OnePlus 16’s Indian launch has not been finalised, while another leak suggested the phone could skip India altogether. OnePlus has not confirmed either scenario.

So, for now:

  • China: Expected in October 2026
  • India: Unconfirmed
  • US/Europe: No new OnePlus launches are expected following the company’s 2026 withdrawal from those markets.

For Indian buyers, this is arguably the biggest unanswered question surrounding the OnePlus 16.

These specifications are based on current leaks and should not be treated as final.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Could Power the OnePlus 16

The biggest performance upgrade could come from Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

The OnePlus 16 is widely tipped to use the higher-end version of Qualcomm’s next flagship platform rather than the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

Current reports suggest the Pro chip could be manufactured using a 2nm process, with a new Adreno GPU and support for next-generation memory technologies.

The exact specifications of the processor haven’t been officially announced yet, so claims about core configurations and GPU performance should be taken with some caution.

Still, if OnePlus pairs the chip with a large cooling system and its gaming-focused software optimisations, the OnePlus 16 could be an absolute monster for demanding games.

Up to 16GB RAM and Possibly LPDDR6

Leaks suggest the OnePlus 16 could be offered with up to 16GB of RAM, with some reports pointing towards the newer LPDDR6 standard.

Storage could reportedly go as high as 1TB, although exact configurations may vary by market.

There’s also disagreement over the storage technology, with some reports mentioning UFS 4.1 while others point towards UFS 5.0.

In other words, the memory and storage configuration is still very much in leak territory.

9,000mAh Battery Could Be the Biggest Upgrade

This is the most exciting OnePlus 16 rumour.

The phone is tipped to feature a massive 9,000mAh battery, compared with the already huge 7,300mAh battery found in the OnePlus 15.

That’s roughly a 23% increase in capacity.

OnePlus could achieve this using newer high-density battery technology to increase capacity without making the phone ridiculously thick.

The charging situation is less clear.

Current leaks point towards 100W or 125W wired charging and 50W wireless charging

If the 9,000mAh battery makes it into the final phone, though, battery life could become one of the OnePlus 16’s biggest selling points.

185Hz Display Is Also Rumoured

The OnePlus 15 already pushed refresh rates beyond what we’re used to seeing on flagship smartphones, and OnePlus could take things even further with the 16.

Recent leaks suggest a 6.78-inch custom BOE display with a system-wide refresh rate around 165Hz and support for up to 185Hz in gaming.

There have also been reports of OnePlus testing a 240Hz panel, although that appears to be much less certain than the 185Hz claim.

For normal scrolling and social media, the difference between 165Hz and 185Hz won’t exactly transform the smartphone experience.

For competitive mobile gaming, however, an extremely high refresh rate could be a different story.

The display is expected to remain around 6.78 inches, with a resolution somewhere around 1.5K/1440p.

200MP Camera Could Finally Give OnePlus a Major Camera Upgrade

The camera system may be another major change.

The most recent leaks point towards a 200MP primary camera, which would represent a massive jump from the 50MP main sensor used on the OnePlus 15.

The rest of the setup is reportedly expected to include:

  • 200MP main camera
  • 50MP ultrawide
  • 50MP telephoto/periscope
  • 50MP selfie camera

However, there’s significant disagreement among tipsters about the exact configuration.

Some leaks suggest the 200MP sensor will be the main camera, while others have suggested that OnePlus could instead use a 200MP telephoto camera.

So while a 200MP sensor appears increasingly likely, its exact role remains uncertain.

Either way, OnePlus seems to be preparing a considerably more ambitious camera setup for the 16.

Design: Expect Something Familiar

Don’t expect OnePlus to completely reinvent the phone’s design.

Current reports suggest the OnePlus 16 could retain much of the OnePlus 15’s design language, including a flat display and premium metal-and-glass construction.

The camera module is less certain, with different leaks suggesting different designs.

There are also rumours of thinner bezels, potentially improving on the already slim bezels of the OnePlus 15.

Software Could Be a Big Change

This is another interesting part of the OnePlus 16 story.

OnePlus’ software future is becoming increasingly tied to OPPO’s ColorOS, with the companies moving towards a shared software strategy.

Reports have indicated that future OnePlus phones will move towards ColorOS rather than OxygenOS in more markets.

That means the OnePlus 16 could launch with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17, particularly in China.

The international software situation is still unclear, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the phone’s availability outside China.

For comparison, OnePlus currently promotes OxygenOS 16 in India, including its AI features and Google Gemini integration.

OnePlus 16 Price: What to Expect

There is no official price yet.

Some leaks have suggested a starting price around CNY 4,999, which would put it in the same broad territory as previous OnePlus flagship pricing in China.

However, converting that directly into an Indian or international price would be misleading because Chinese and Indian pricing includes different taxes, distribution costs, and configurations.

A higher price wouldn’t be surprising either, considering the potential upgrades to the processor, camera, display and battery.

OnePlus 16: What Is Actually Confirmed?

At the moment, very little hardware is officially confirmed.

Strong rumours

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro
  • 9,000mAh battery
  • 6.78-inch display
  • Up to 185Hz refresh rate
  • 200MP camera
  • 50MP additional cameras
  • October 2026 China launch

Still uncertain

  • Exact charging speed
  • LPDDR6 RAM
  • 1TB storage option
  • Exact camera configuration
  • 240Hz display
  • Final design
  • Global availability
  • India launch
  • Final pricing

Should You Wait for the OnePlus 16?

If you’re looking for a performance-focused Android flagship, the OnePlus 16 is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

The combination of a next-generation Snapdragon chip, a potentially 9,000mAh battery, an ultra-high-refresh-rate display, and a 200MP camera would make it one of the most aggressively specced smartphones of 2026.

But there’s a catch. For Indian buyers, the launch itself remains uncertain. OnePlus says India remains a key market, but reports have suggested that the OnePlus 16’s India plans aren’t finalised.

So if you’re currently considering buying a OnePlus 15, it may be worth waiting for more information before pulling the trigger, especially with the OnePlus 16 expected to arrive in China within the next couple of months.

The big question isn’t whether the hardware will be impressive. It’s whether OnePlus will actually bring it to India.
