Google Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL vs. Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL: What’s New?

Google has officially launched the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL, the next generation of its flagship smartphones.

While the overall design philosophy remains familiar, the Pixel 11 Pro models introduce meaningful changes to the processor, display brightness, camera software, charging, AI features, and notification system.

The Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099 in the US, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL starts at $1,199.

That is $100 more than the launch prices of the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, which started at $999 and $1,099, respectively.

So, if you already own a Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL, what exactly are you getting by moving to the new generation? Here is a detailed look at the biggest upgrades.

Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL Get the New Tensor G6 Chip

The biggest hardware change is inside the phones. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL use Google’s Tensor G5 processor, while the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL move to the new Tensor G6.

Google says the Tensor G6 has been fully upgraded for its latest AI workloads and offers up to 50% more computing power.

The chip is paired with the new Titan M3 security chip, replacing the Titan M2 security coprocessor found in the Pixel 10 generation.

The upgrade is particularly important because Google continues to focus on AI rather than simply competing on traditional benchmark performance.

Tensor G6 is designed around Google’s Gemini Intelligence features, on-device AI processing, and improved power efficiency.

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL also offer up to 16GB of RAM. It starts with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, while higher configurations pair 16GB RAM with 512GB storage.

Brighter Displays on Both Pro Models

The display sizes have not changed. The Pixel 11 Pro still has a 6.3-inch Super Actua display, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL retains its 6.8-inch Super Actua panel.

The important upgrade is brightness. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL could reach up to 3,300 nits of peak brightness, while the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL increase that figure to 3,600 nits.

Both generations use LTPO OLED panels with adaptive refresh rates reaching 120Hz.

That 300-nit increase may not sound dramatic on paper, but it should make the Pixel 11 Pro phones easier to view outdoors, particularly under direct sunlight.

Google is also retaining Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the Pro models, while the Pixel 11 Pro series gets a silky matte rear finish and spacecraft-grade aluminium frame.

The Camera Hardware Looks Familiar, but the Camera System Is More Capable

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL continue to use a triple rear-camera setup rather than adding a fourth sensor. The system consists of a 50MP wide camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera with Macro Focus, and a 48MP 5x telephoto camera.

On paper, that is very close to the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, which also feature a 50MP primary camera, 48MP ultrawide camera and 48MP 5x telephoto camera.

The bigger changes come from Google’s image processing and camera features. The Pixel 11 Pro models can now reach up to 120x Pro Zoom, compared with up to 100x Pro Zoom on the Pixel 10 Pro generation.

Google is also introducing new camera-focused features including Magic Capture, which analyzes almost 400 frames around a moment to select well-timed, high-quality images.

The Pro models additionally support 8K video, Pro Stable Video and Video Boost.

This means the Pixel 11 Pro’s camera upgrade is less about completely replacing the camera hardware and more about improving what Google can achieve through computational photography and AI.

A New 42MP Selfie Camera Continues on the Pro Models

The front camera remains a 42MP autofocus sensor on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL.

Google also gave the camera a 103-degree field of view, making it better suited to group selfies and wider framing.

The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL also had 42MP autofocus selfie cameras, so this isn’t a major resolution upgrade. Instead, Google is focusing on the camera’s software capabilities and video features.

HiLight Is One of the Most Noticeable New Features

One of the most interesting additions exclusive to the Pixel 11 Pro models is HiLight.

HiLight is designed to keep you informed without requiring you to pick up or unlock the phone.

The system uses a light integrated into the phone’s rear camera area to provide notifications and alerts when the device is face down.

Google says it can gently glow when an important call or update needs your attention.

This is quite different from the Pixel 10 Pro generation, which did not have an equivalent rear notification lighting system.

It is not a feature that changes the raw specifications of the phone, but it could become one of the most visible day-to-day differences between the two generations.

Gemini Intelligence Gets a Bigger Role

AI is arguably the biggest theme of the Pixel 11 generation.

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL support Gemini Nano, Gemini Live, Gemini Apps, Magic Cue, Circle to Search, Live Translate and Call Assist.

Google also says Gemini Intelligence is a more proactive system capable of working across apps and helping you complete tasks.

The Pixel 10 Pro already offered a strong Gemini-powered experience, so existing owners will not find AI completely unfamiliar.

The difference with the Pixel 11 generation is the deeper integration between Tensor G6, Gemini and the phone’s camera and system features.

Google is also offering six months of Google AI Pro with the Pixel 11 Pro in some markets.

Battery Capacity Has Actually Gone Down Slightly

The battery story is more complicated than simply calling the Pixel 11 Pro an upgrade.

The Pixel 10 Pro had a typical 4,870mAh battery, while the Pixel 11 Pro uses a typical 4,850mAh battery. That is a very small reduction of around 20mAh.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL had a typical 5,200mAh battery, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL comes with a 5,115mAh battery, representing an 85mAh reduction.

Despite the smaller capacities, Google rates the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL for more than 30 hours of battery life.

The new Tensor G6 and Google’s adaptive battery management are therefore expected to play an important role in maintaining or improving real-world endurance.

Faster Charging on the Pixel 11 Pro XL

The Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro XL both support up to 45W wired charging, so the peak wattage is the same on paper.

However, the Pixel 11 Pro XL is able to charge faster in real-world use because it sustains higher charging speeds for longer and uses an improved charging curve with better thermal and battery management.

This means it can reach higher charge levels more quickly, especially in the 0-50% and 0-75% range, even though the maximum wattage rating hasn’t changed.

Both Pixel 11 Pro models also support Pixelsnap wireless charging at up to 25W. This is an improvement over the Pixel 10 Pro’s 15W wireless charging, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL already supported up to 25W.

As a result, wireless charging is a particularly notable upgrade for Pixel 10 Pro owners, while Pixel 10 Pro XL owners see less of a change.

Design Is Refined Rather Than Completely Redesigned

Google has not radically changed the Pixel’s design language for 2026.

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL retain the familiar camera-bar approach, but have refined the camera design with a thinner profile.

The phones also feature a silky matte rear finish and polished metal frame treatment.

The change is therefore more evolutionary than revolutionary. Someone familiar with the Pixel 10 Pro will immediately recognize the Pixel 11 Pro family, but there are enough refinements to distinguish the newer generation.

The addition of HiLight around the camera area is arguably the most obvious functional design change.

Pixel 11 Pro vs Pixel 10 Pro: Key Upgrades

The Pixel 11 Pro keeps the same 6.3-inch display size and broadly similar camera hardware as the Pixel 10 Pro, but it increases peak brightness from 3,300 to 3,600 nits, moves from Tensor G5 to Tensor G6, introduces Titan M3 security, adds HiLight, supports up to 120x Pro Zoom instead of 100x, and brings new AI-powered camera and video features.

The battery capacity is almost unchanged, falling slightly from 4,870mAh to 4,850mAh, while wireless charging rises from 15W to up to 25W.

Pixel 11 Pro XL vs Pixel 10 Pro XL: Key Upgrades

The Pixel 11 Pro XL follows the same formula. Its 6.8-inch display remains the same size, but peak brightness rises from 3,300 nits to 3,600 nits.

Tensor G6 replaces Tensor G5, while the camera system gains 120x Pro Zoom, new computational photography tools, and enhanced video capabilities.

The battery is slightly smaller at 5,115mAh compared with 5,200mAh on the Pixel 10 Pro XL, but Google continues to claim more than 30 hours of battery life.

Charging speed is almost the same, with 45W wired charging and up to 25W Pixelsnap wireless charging.

Should You Upgrade From Pixel 10 Pro or Pro XL?

For Pixel 10 Pro owners, the Pixel 11 Pro is an evolutionary upgrade rather than a complete transformation.

The reasons to upgrade are the Tensor G6 platform, brighter display, 120x Pro Zoom, improved AI capabilities, HiLight, new camera tools, and faster wireless charging, which doesn’t seem enough.

For Pixel 10 Pro XL owners, the upgrade is even less compelling because the 10 Pro XL already had a 6.8-inch 120Hz display, 45W wired charging, and 25W wireless charging.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL’s only advantages are the new Tensor G6 platform, brighter display, improved AI features, HiLight, and new camera software.

For someone coming from an older Pixel generation, however, the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL are a much more substantial upgrade.
