The Blood of Dawnwalker Vampire Court Guide: How the Court Works, Infamy, Activities, and Boyars

The Vampire Court is one of the most important systems in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

It is essentially the backbone of Coen’s main quest after the prologue, connecting the game’s open-world activities with the three vampire vassals serving under Brencis.

Rather than simply following a linear main quest, you are expected to disrupt the Court, increase your Infamy, anger Brencis’ vassals, and eventually confront them.

Understanding how this system works is crucial because The Blood of Dawnwalker gives you only 30 in-game days to deal with Brencis and rescue your family.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Vampire Court.

Warning: This guide contains spoilers for the main story and vampire boss encounters.

What Is the Vampire Court in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

The Vampire Court is the ruling structure established by Brencis, the vampire lord who has taken control of Vale Sangora.

Brencis doesn’t control the region alone. He relies on three powerful vampire vassals, also known as boyars

  • Ambrus
  • Bakir
  • Xanthe

Each vassal controls their own territory and operations throughout Vale Sangora. The Court menu lets you track these characters, their activities, and your progress toward confronting them.

Your primary objective is to weaken this system by completing Court Activities associated with each vassal.

There are currently 41 Court Activities spread across the three vampire territories.

  • Ambrus: 14 activities
  • Bakir: 12 activities
  • Xanthe: 15 activities

Completing these activities increases the corresponding vassal’s Anger.

Once their Anger reaches the required level, you can trigger their boss quest and eventually challenge them.

Who Are the Vampire Court Members?

Brencis – Knyaz of Vale Sangora

Brencis is the ruler of Vale Sangora and the ultimate target of Coen’s journey.

He is the vampire responsible for taking Coen’s family, and reaching him is considerably more complicated than simply walking into his castle.

Brencis rules from Greifberg Castle, overlooking Svartrau. His three vassals help maintain his control over the valley.

The Court system essentially gives you a way of dismantling Brencis’ power structure before you confront him.

Ambrus – The Young Bull

Ambrus is the youngest of Brencis’ three vassals and is generally the first one you can meaningfully target.

His operations are concentrated in the northern parts of Vale Sangora. His responsibilities include the blood supply chain, including the collection, transportation, and storage of blood for Brencis and his allies.

Because Ambrus is accessible relatively early, he is a natural starting point for you as you work through the Court.

Bakir – The Warmonger

Bakir controls territory in the southwestern portion of the valley.

His operations are heavily connected to Brencis’ military machine, including rebel hunters, transports, distilleries, and other activities.

Once you have angered him enough, his storyline eventually leads to the Lunar Game at Lunar Manor, where you can confront him.

Xanthe

Xanthe is the oldest of the three vassals and controls the southeastern portion of Vale Sangora.

Her operations are more focused on esoteric research and experiments, making her activities quite different from those associated with Ambrus and Bakir.

Xanthe can take longer to reach and is generally better suited to a more developed character.

How Court Activities Work

Court Activities are the main way you interfere with the vampire regime.

Open the Court menu and select one of the three vassals. You’ll see activities associated with that character represented by their heraldry.

You can select an activity to track it through your Journal and locate it on the map.

Activities involve things such as:

  • Destroying vampire-controlled operations
  • Attacking camps
  • Interfering with blood transportation
  • Disrupting supply lines
  • Investigating locations
  • Fighting enemies
  • Destroying or sabotaging facilities

The exact objective varies depending on the activity.

The important part: check the Court menu first

Don’t randomly clear activities across the entire map.

Because Dawnwalker uses time as a resource, travelling across the valley simply to complete one activity can be inefficient.

Instead, look at the Court menu and choose several activities that are close together. This lets you complete multiple objectives during the same trip.

The game’s 41 Court Activities are specifically designed around this system, and grouping nearby activities into a route is one of the most efficient ways to progress.

How to Increase a Boyar’s Anger

Every Court Activity is associated with one of the three vampire vassals.

Completing an activity increases the Anger of that particular vassal. For example, Ambrus’s activity increases Ambrus’s Anger

This means you shouldn’t think of Court progression as one giant shared meter. Each boyar has their own progression.

When a vassal reaches maximum Anger, their boss storyline becomes available, eventually leading to a confrontation.

What Is Infamy?

Alongside the individual Anger meters, the Court menu also tracks Coen’s Infamy. Infamy represents how much you’ve disrupted the vampire regime.

The more you interfere with the Court, the more notorious Coen becomes. You can check your current Infamy directly from the Court menu.

This creates an interesting trade-off: More disruption = more Infamy = more attention from the Court.

But high Infamy isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, certain story opportunities require you to reach higher Infamy levels.

For example, the Manumits faction questline requires Coen to reach the Notorious tier, which is the fourth Infamy level.

So if you’re trying to unlock every possible faction and quest opportunity, don’t be afraid of raising your Infamy.

Infamy Also Triggers Edicts

One of the biggest things to understand about Infamy is that the Court doesn’t simply sit around while you destroy its operations.

As your Infamy rises, Brencis’ regime can issue Edicts against you. These Edicts increase the pressure on Coen and can make the world more dangerous.

Think of them as the Court’s response to your growing reputation.

You’re basically telling the vampire regime: “I’m coming for you.”

And they’re responding accordingly. This is why blindly farming every Court Activity isn’t always the smartest approach.

Should You Complete Every Court Activity?

No, at least not immediately.

You have a strict time economy in The Blood of Dawnwalker. The game gives you 30 in-game days, and quests, certain conversations, and other activities consume time.

Because of this, completing every Court Activity before progressing the story can waste valuable time.

This is the best approach:

  1. Open the Court menu.
  2. Pick the vassal you want to weaken.
  3. Identify several nearby activities.
  4. Complete them in a single route.
  5. Increase that vassal’s Anger.
  6. Trigger their boss quest.
  7. Defeat the vassal.
  8. Move on to the next target.

You can then return to optional Court Activities later if you have enough time.

Best Order for the Vampire Court

There isn’t necessarily one mandatory order for the three vassals.

However, Ambrus is the most natural starting point, since his territory and storyline are accessible earlier. Bakir follows naturally, while Xanthe can be tackled later once you’re more prepared.

A practical route is:

1. Ambrus

Start by disrupting Ambrus’ operations and raising his Anger. Once his meter is filled, follow his boss quest and defeat him.

2. Bakir

Move into Bakir’s territory and start destroying his operations. Eventually, you’ll unlock the Lunar Game sequence, leading to your confrontation with Bakir.

3. Xanthe

Finally, focus on Xanthe’s operations and complete enough activities to trigger her confrontation.

4. Brencis

Once you’ve dealt with the vassals, you’re in a much stronger position to make the final push against Brencis.

Importantly, you don’t strictly have to dismantle the entire Court before going after Brencis.

The game allows alternative approaches, meaning the state of the Court can influence how the final part of the story plays out.

Tips for Managing the Vampire Court

Don’t Travel Across the Map for One Activity

This is probably the biggest mistake you can make. Time is valuable, so group Court Activities together.

If you have three Ambrus activities in roughly the same area, complete them in one trip rather than constantly bouncing between regions.

Keep an Eye on Your Infamy

Increasing Infamy can unlock opportunities, but it also causes the Court to respond with Edicts.

Don’t treat Infamy as something you should simply maximize as quickly as possible. Instead, use it strategically.

Don’t Ignore the Vassal Anger Meters

The Court menu tells you how close each vassal is to becoming available for their boss encounter.

If you’re close to maxing out Ambrus, for example, it can be more efficient to finish his remaining activities instead of starting another character’s progression from scratch.

Use the Court as Your Main-Quest Dashboard

After the prologue, the Court menu becomes one of your most useful tools.

Instead of wondering what the main story expects you to do, check: Court → Vassal → Activities → Anger → Boss Quest

That’s the main progression loop.

Vampire Court Rewards

Defeating the Court isn’t just about progressing the story.

Disrupting the vampire regime can also give you access to new abilities, rewards, quests, and opportunities, depending on which activities and vassals you target.

This is another reason not to view Court Activities as simple filler.

They’re directly connected to Coen’s progression and the wider political structure of Vale Sangora.
