GTA 6: All the Major New Details Revealed(30, September 2026)

Rockstar Games has finally pulled back the curtain on Grand Theft Auto VI with one of the most substantial information drops since the game’s trailers and extended gameplay presentation.

The new 14-page Game Informer cover story, based on interviews with Rockstar developers, reveals a huge number of previously undisclosed details about Leonida and the systems that will power the open world.

The new information covers everything from hurricanes and wildlife to vehicle theft, police investigations, fast travel, NPCs, side activities, and the relationship between Jason and Lucia.

Rockstar has also released 12 new screenshots showing parts of Vice City and the wider Leonida world that have not been seen before.

Here is everything major that was revealed.

GTA 6 Has Rockstar’s Biggest Map Yet

One of the biggest revelations is the sheer size of GTA 6.

According to the new Game Informer coverage, Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s map. However, Rockstar isn’t simply making the map larger for the sake of scale.

The studio says it has focused on making the world denser, more detailed, and more interactive.

Leonida is divided into six primary regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.

This means GTA 6 goes well beyond the streets of Vice City. You will travel through beaches, wetlands, rural areas, industrial locations, smaller communities, and wilderness areas.

Rockstar is also putting considerably more attention into spaces between major locations.

The game will have more interiors than previous GTA games, alongside a greater focus on rooftops, alleys, and other areas that you might normally ignore.

Hurricanes Are Finally Confirmed

One of the most heavily speculated GTA 6 features has now been officially confirmed: hurricanes are coming to Leonida.

Rockstar has completely reworked the game’s weather technology, creating a localized and persistent system rather than simply switching the entire map from sunny to rainy.

That means one part of Leonida could be experiencing heavy rain while another part remains sunny.

Tropical storms and hurricanes will be part of the system, although Rockstar has not revealed exactly how frequently they will occur or whether major storms can directly affect specific story missions.

Rain itself has also received a major upgrade. Water can accumulate into persistent puddles, surfaces remain wet after storms, and changing lighting conditions can produce rainbows.

Clouds are dynamic as well, meaning weather can develop and move across the map rather than simply appearing as a global effect.

GTA 6 Has a Much More Advanced Wind System

Weather isn’t only about rain. Rockstar has developed a new wind system capable of simulating different types of wind, including offshore breezes, convectional updrafts and wind being redirected or blocked by buildings.

The effects can be seen throughout the environment. Hair, vegetation, debris, and water can all react to changing wind conditions.

This should make storms feel substantially more physical than weather systems in previous GTA games.

It is another example of Rockstar attempting to make Leonida react to the environment rather than simply displaying a different skybox when the weather changes.

More Than 170 Animal Species Will Populate Leonida

GTA 6’s wildlife system is much larger than previously known.

Rockstar has confirmed more than 170 animal species throughout Leonida, including more than 60 types of birds and more than 30 land mammals.

The world includes animals such as alligators, manatees, flamingos, pelicans, iguanas, armadillos and feral cats, alongside a huge variety of marine life.

Scuba diving can put you in contact with sharks, whales, turtles, jellyfish and rays.

Rockstar has also built more detailed animal behaviors and visual systems.

Wildlife can display characteristics such as iridescence, translucency, and bioluminescence, while fur and feathers can respond to environmental conditions.

Some animals can also be tracked, with Rockstar introducing different categories of wildlife, including rare and discoverable animals.

NPCs Are Getting a Huge Upgrade

Rockstar is also significantly expanding the variety of people who inhabit Leonida.

NPCs can differ in height, weight, body shape, musculature, and other physical characteristics. Skin can have details such as freckles, moles, and different levels of tanning.

The differences aren’t limited to character models.

Rockstar has worked on hairstyles, tattoos, grooming and clothing to make people feel more connected to the communities and environments they live in.

NPC clothing can change depending on location, social circumstances, and even weathering and dirt.

Rockstar has also created a dedicated team focused on NPC dialogue, meaning conversations heard while exploring the world should have considerably more variety.

The studio says GTA 6 contains its largest collection of clothing and accessories yet, with different garments, shoes, watches, sunglasses, hats, patterns and other details designed around the characters and their environments.

Vehicle Theft Is Much More Complicated

Stealing cars has always been one of the fundamental parts of GTA, but GTA 6 is making the process more sophisticated.

Not every vehicle can simply be stolen in the same way.

Some vehicles can be taken using traditional methods, while others require specialized tools. More expensive cars can also feature security systems and trackers.

Rockstar has introduced a phone application called WAiNK that can provide information about vehicles, including their security systems, trackers, registration costs and estimated resale value.

Instead of automatically stealing the most expensive car you see, you may need to consider whether you have the equipment required to take it and whether you can actually get rid of its security systems.

The Police Now Have a New Heat System

The classic GTA wanted system is returning, including six-star wanted levels, but Rockstar is adding another layer called the Heat system.

The police can gather information about you from a crime scene, including your appearance and whereabouts.

That means escaping the immediate police chase may not necessarily mean you’re completely safe.

Changing your clothes or hairstyle, abandoning your getaway vehicle and separating Jason and Lucia can help make it more difficult for police to identify you.

This creates a more investigative approach to police encounters. Instead of simply waiting for the wanted level to disappear, you may have to think about what evidence you have left behind.

If Jason or Lucia is eventually caught, the classic Busted screen is also returning.

Jason and Lucia Can Become Friends or a Couple

Rockstar has revealed another interesting thing about the relationship between the two protagonists.

Jason and Lucia can remain close friends or develop a romantic relationship depending on how players interact with them.

The relationship isn’t simply a traditional romance meter. You can influence their bond through activities and interactions, and their relationship can affect parts of the story.

Importantly, Rockstar isn’t presenting romance as a mandatory gameplay system, and neither relationship path provides a direct gameplay advantage.

You can also switch between Jason and Lucia at almost any time, giving the two-character system more flexibility.

Robberies Can Be Approached in Different Ways

GTA 6 is also making its criminal activities more flexible.

Robberies can be approached in different ways, and you are able to decide how aggressively you want to handle certain situations.

The way a robbery unfolds can influence the police response, and the amount of money available to Jason and Lucia can also affect which opportunities become available.

There is an interesting connection between the game’s systems here. Completing robberies together can influence Jason and Lucia’s relationship, meaning criminal activities can have consequences beyond simply adding money to the account.

This approach is designed to make the campaign less linear and give you more reasons to experiment with different approaches.

RydeMe Gives GTA 6 a New Fast-Travel Option

Leonida is enormous, so Rockstar has added a new way to travel around the map. You can use the RydeMe ride-sharing service to travel without driving yourself.

However, Rockstar isn’t treating this as a simple teleportation system.

Jason or Lucia can share rides with other passengers and potentially interact with them during the journey. You can also use your phone during the trip, browse social media, and listen to music.

It essentially turns fast travel into another small slice of the game’s world rather than completely removing the journey.

You Can Doomscroll Social Media

The in-game phone is becoming an even bigger part of GTA 6. You will be able to browse social media feeds, including the returning parody social network Snapmatic.

However, Jason and Lucia won’t be able to freely post their own content.

The explanation is tied to the game’s story: the protagonists are criminals on the run, so publicly broadcasting their activities would obviously be a bad idea.

It is another small detail showing how Rockstar is attempting to connect everyday activities with the game’s narrative rather than simply adding features because they look cool.

GTA 6 Has a Huge Number of Side Activities

There will be plenty to do when you aren’t following the main story.

The new information confirms activities including base jumping, billiards, gym workouts, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street racing, off-road racing, visiting zoos, air boating and jet skiing.

The open world also contains various outdoor activities and locations designed to encourage players to explore areas outside Vice City.

The wildlife and scuba-diving systems also provide additional reasons to leave the roads and explore Leonida’s water and wilderness areas.

GTA 6 Is Designed to Feel More Reactive

Perhaps the biggest theme running through all of these revelations is that Rockstar isn’t simply making a bigger map.

Weather reacts to individual areas. Wildlife behaves differently across habitats. NPCs have more physical and social variation.

Police can remember information about crimes. Vehicles have different levels of security. Jason and Lucia’s relationship can change.

Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut described the goal as increasing the game’s detail, scope, breadth, scale, interaction, and density rather than sacrificing one area to improve another.

That philosophy explains why many of today’s announcements are systems rather than headline-grabbing story details.

GTA 6 Is Still Scheduled for November 19, 2026

Despite all of these new revelations, Rockstar hasn’t announced another delay.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rockstar’s official extended gameplay presentation also confirms those platforms and the November release date.

The Game Informer reveal gives us a much clearer picture of what Rockstar has been building.

GTA 6 isn’t simply a return to Vice City with better graphics. The studio is attempting to make Leonida a significantly more reactive world, with localized weather, hundreds of animal species, more detailed NPCs, deeper police systems, more complex vehicle theft, and a greater number of activities.

And with launch now approaching, there is still plenty Rockstar hasn’t shown.

The biggest remaining questions concern the full story, the complete mission structure, the exact scale of player choice, and what else Rockstar has kept hidden ahead of release.
