Diablo 4 Season 15: What’s New

Blizzard Entertainment has officially revealed the first details for Diablo 4 Season 15 through the 3.2.0 Public Test Realm (PTR).

It will be available from August 4 to August 11. The PTR gives us an early look at several of the features planned for the next season, including a brand-new seasonal power system, Challenge Dungeons, Legacy Uniques inspired by previous Diablo games, Rebirth, and significant changes to Mythic crafting.

Blizzard has confirmed that this preview does not include every feature coming in Season 15.

The developer plans to reveal additional content during BlizzCon, meaning we can expect more surprises when the season officially launches.

Soul Splinters Introduce a New Seasonal Power

The biggest addition in Season 15 is Soul Splinters, a new type of socketable item that grants powerful bonuses but comes with drawbacks.

It is designed to encourage build experimentation; Soul Splinters can be inserted into jewelry and are available in five rarities: Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique.

They can also be upgraded using the Horadric Cube.

Each Soul Splinter offers a different risk-and-reward mechanic. For example, the Splinter of Anguish increases Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed but also raises Primary Resource costs.

Meanwhile, the Splinter of Hellfire provides a massive damage increase at the cost of completely removing Critical Strike Chance.

Another example is the Splinter of Pain, which grants substantial Damage Reduction while reducing Movement Speed.

In total, the PTR introduces eight Soul Splinters, each designed to support different playstyles and make you rethink your existing builds.

Challenge Dungeons Offer a New Endgame Activity

Season 15 also introduces Challenge Dungeons, a brand-new activity found throughout Sanctuary.

You can enter these dungeons through portals that appear in the overworld before facing a powerful boss encounter.

For those playing on Torment difficulties, Challenge Dungeons include an additional layer of difficulty.

You can increase the encounter’s challenge by up to three Torment tiers above their current difficulty, rewarding those who take on greater risks with better loot.

Blizzard also notes that the encounters featured in the PTR are primarily designed to test the new system, and that the final Season 15 version will include different content.

Beware of Overland Ambushes

Exploring Sanctuary will become much less predictable in Season 15 thanks to Overland Ambushes.

During exploration, players may suddenly become the target of a powerful demon hunt.

A warning appears before the encounter begins, giving you roughly 30 seconds to either flee or prepare for battle.

Blizzard describes these encounters as some of the toughest overworld challenges in the game.

Legacy Uniques Bring Back Diablo Classics

One of the most exciting additions for long-time Diablo fans is the arrival of Legacy Uniques.

These iconic items return from earlier Diablo titles and become permanent additions to Diablo 4 rather than seasonal-exclusive rewards.

The PTR includes classic items such as Leoric’s Crown, Stone of Jordan, Nemesis Bracers, and Squirt’s Blouse, and several class-specific favorites also return, including In-Geom, The Furnace, Arioc’s Needle, and Henri’s Perquisition.

Blizzard has also confirmed that Messerschmidt’s Reaver will arrive with Season 15 but will not be available during the PTR.

Although these items retain the spirit of their original versions, Blizzard has updated their effects to better fit Diablo 4’s current itemization and gameplay systems.

Mythic Crafting Gets a Major Overhaul

Following player feedback, Blizzard is once again refining the Mythic crafting system in Season 15.

The biggest change is the introduction of a direct upgrade option through the Horadric Cube.

Instead of relying on random outcomes, you can upgrade an existing Unique item into its Mythic version while preserving its affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking.

This makes the process significantly more predictable for players chasing perfect endgame gear.

You can also continue crafting Mythic Uniques through the Jeweler using Runes and Resplendent Sparks.

Meanwhile, Mythics created through the Horadric Cube will receive a special Crafted tag, with players only able to equip one Crafted Mythic at a time.

Blizzard has also expanded the Blacksmith’s Mythic Cache and made Iconic Mythics available as regular Uniques. So, player can obtain build-defining items much earlier in their progression.

New Mythic and Unique Charms

Season 15 continues to expand Diablo 4’s Talisman system with the introduction of Mythic Unique Charms and several new Unique Charms.

Mythic Charms feature maximum stat rolls and stronger unique effects than their standard counterparts.

Unlike Mythic gear, they cannot be crafted and must instead be obtained through random drops.

Blizzard has also added sixteen new Unique Charms, with several based on both existing Diablo 4 items and the newly introduced Legacy Uniques.

Rebirth Finally Arrives

Another long-requested feature making its debut in Season 15 is Rebirth.

Instead of creating a brand-new Seasonal character every few months, you can now convert an existing Eternal Realm character into a Seasonal one.

The character begins again at Level 1 while retaining their appearance, name, cosmetics, pets, mounts, portals, and Hardcore or Normal status.

You simply need to move your equipment and inventory into the Eternal stash before beginning the Rebirth process.

The feature should make seasonal resets more convenient for players who have grown attached to a particular character over multiple seasons.

Horadric Post Adds an In-Game Mail System

Blizzard is also introducing the Horadric Post, a new account-wide delivery system that allows the development team to send rewards, supplies, commemorative items, and important messages directly to players.

During the PTR, participants will receive a special reward through the Horadric Post as Blizzard tests the new feature ahead of the season’s launch.

More Season 15 Reveals Are Still to Come

While the PTR showcases several major additions, this is only part of what Season 15 has to offer.

According to the developer, additional features will be unveiled during BlizzCon, explaining why the 3.2.0 PTR is smaller in scope than previous public tests.
