Remedy Entertainment has officially unveiled Control Resonant, the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 supernatural action game, Control.
The new title was recently featured during PlayStation’s June 2026 State of Play, where Remedy confirmed a release date, showcased new gameplay, and revealed major changes to the series’ formula.
From its setting and story possibilities to gameplay expectations, here’s everything we know about Control: Resonant so far.
What Is Control Resonant?
Control Resonant is the direct sequel to Control and the next major entry in Remedy Entertainment’s interconnected universe.
The game is an action-adventure RPG that expands the supernatural world established in the original title while introducing a fresh perspective on its story and gameplay.
Unlike the first game, which focused on Jesse Faden’s rise to Director of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), Control Resonant shifts the spotlight to her brother, Dylan Faden.
Dylan Faden Is the New Protagonist
One of the biggest surprises is the decision to make Dylan Faden the playable protagonist.
Fans of the original game will remember Dylan as Jesse’s brother, whose mysterious connection to the Bureau and the Hiss played a major role in the story.
In Control Resonant, you will experience the world through Dylan’s perspective as he confronts a new reality-bending threat and searches for answers surrounding his family and the FBC.
Jesse remains an important part of the narrative, but she is no longer the primary playable character.
A Warped Manhattan Replaces the Oldest House
While the original Control was largely confined to the shifting corridors of the Oldest House, Control Resonant takes you beyond the Bureau’s headquarters.
The sequel is set in a distorted version of Manhattan that has been transformed by paranormal forces. Remedy describes the setting as a city on the brink of “paranatural annihilation,” filled with supernatural anomalies, altered environments, and large explorable zones.
Rather than a traditional open world, the game will feature expansive interconnected areas packed with optional activities, side content, and hidden discoveries.
Combat Has Changed Dramatically
Perhaps the most significant gameplay change is the shift away from the firearm-focused combat of the original game.
Dylan wields a shape-shifting weapon known as the Aberrant, a supernatural weapon designed around melee combat.
Remedy has said that Control Resonant places a much greater focus on close-quarters action while still retaining the reality-bending powers and supernatural abilities that defined the first game.
The combat system is also being expanded with RPG-style progression, character builds, and player choice, allowing you to customize your approach to encounters.
More RPG Elements Than Ever Before
Remedy has repeatedly described Control Resonant as an action RPG rather than a traditional action-adventure game.
We can expect deeper progression systems, skill customization, side quests, optional activities, and more meaningful player choices.
The studio has stated that increasing player agency was a major goal for the sequel while still maintaining the cinematic storytelling for which Remedy is known.
Connections to Alan Wake and the Remedy Universe
Like its predecessor, Control Resonant will continue to be part of the growing Remedy Connected Universe.
The links between Control and Alan Wake have become increasingly important in recent years, especially following Alan Wake 2 and its DLC expansions.
While Remedy has not revealed the full extent of those connections, we are expecting additional crossover elements and references throughout the story.
Release Date and Platforms
Remedy has officially confirmed that Control Resonant will launch on September 24, 2026. The game is currently scheduled for:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC (Steam and Epic Games Store)
- Mac
Pre-orders are already available, and a Digital Deluxe Edition will include early access and additional bonuses.
Why are We Excited
Control Resonant isn’t simply repeating the formula of the original game. Remedy appears to be taking significant risks by introducing a new protagonist, a larger setting, RPG progression systems, and a combat overhaul centered around melee action.
Those changes have made the sequel one of the most anticipated games of 2026, especially if you are a fan of the Remedy Connected Universe.
If the studio can successfully combine its trademark storytelling with the expanded gameplay systems shown so far, Control Resonant is easily one of the year’s biggest releases.
Control Resonant looks set to push the franchise in a bold new direction. With Dylan Faden taking center stage, a supernatural Manhattan to explore, deeper RPG mechanics, and a completely revamped combat system.
With its September release date approaching, we won’t have to wait much longer to discover what lies beyond the walls of the Oldest House.
