The next chapter in Activision’s blockbuster shooter franchise is officially here. After months of rumors, teasers, and community speculation, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has finally been revealed by Activision and Infinity Ward, bringing back Captain Price, introducing a new global conflict, and pushing the series fully into the current-generation era.

Modern Warfare 4 Release Date
Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. The game is being developed by Infinity Ward and serves as the direct follow-up to the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline.

- Xbox Series X|S
- PC (Steam, Battle.net, Xbox PC)
- Nintendo Switch 2
Notably, Modern Warfare 4 will not launch on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, making it the first Modern Warfare title in years to fully abandon last-generation hardware.
A New War on the Korean Peninsula
The campaign takes you into one of the franchise’s most politically charged settings yet. According to the official reveal, a large-scale conflict erupts when North Korea launches an invasion that threatens global stability.
The story follows multiple perspectives, including South Korean soldiers fighting on the front lines, Captain John Price operating outside official channels, and Military forces caught in an escalating international conflict
Infinity Ward says the campaign will feature missions across several locations, including Korea, New York, Paris, and Mumbai. We can expect everything from trench warfare and urban combat to covert nighttime operations.
Captain Price Returns
One of the biggest highlights of the reveal is the return of Captain Price.
Following the events of Modern Warfare III, Price is reportedly operating as a rogue figure while continuing his pursuit of Vladimir Makarov.
The new story appears to place him at the center of a growing international crisis, potentially bringing long-running storylines to a dramatic conclusion.
While Infinity Ward has not fully revealed the entire cast, the trailer strongly suggests that familiar faces from Task Force 141 will continue to play a major role.
Multiplayer Gets a Major Overhaul
Modern Warfare 4 is aiming to deliver a more grounded multiplayer experience compared to some recent entries.
According to Infinity Ward, multiplayer focuses on precise gunplay, fluid movement, and greater player control during engagements.
Day-one content includes 12 brand-new 6v6 maps alongside larger-scale battlefields designed for vehicle and infantry combat.
Several fan-requested features are also returning, including Traditional Prestige progression, Classic perk system, Theater Mode, Map voting, and Red dots on the minimap.
The game also introduces movement improvements such as ledge hanging, enhanced mantling, and refined slide mechanics.
DMZ Is Back
Extraction shooter fans have a reason to be excited. Infinity Ward has confirmed the return of DMZ, the franchise’s extraction-based mode.
The studio describes it as the “definitive Call of Duty extraction experience,” featuring dynamic objectives, changing environments, and evolving battlefield conditions.
You will once again enter hostile zones, complete objectives, secure valuable loot, and decide when to extract before losing everything.
Nintendo Gets Call of Duty Again
Perhaps the most surprising announcement is the game’s release on Nintendo Switch 2.
Modern Warfare 4 becomes the first Call of Duty title to launch on a Nintendo platform in over a decade. This move follows Microsoft’s long-term agreement with Nintendo and marks a significant expansion for the franchise.
The Switch 2 version is being built specifically for the platform rather than relying on cloud streaming technology.
