AMD recently announced new AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. They are mainly focused on improving the PC gaming experience.
AMD Radeon RX 6000 series includes 3 GPUs, RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and new flagship RX 6900 XT. They are built on a new 7nm RDNA 2 architecture.
According to AMD, Series 6000 is almost 2x better in performance compared to the last generation. They will also support Microsoft DirectX 12 ultimate.
AMD RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT Key Specs
Compute Units | Texture Units | Memory Size | Base Clock Speed | Boost Clock Speed | Memory Bus | Cache | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AMD Radeon RX 6800 | 60 | 240 | 16 GB GDDR6 | 1815 | 2105 | 256 bit | 128 MB |
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT | 72 | 288 | 16 GB GDDR6 | 2015 | 2250 | 256 bit | 128 MB |
AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT | 80 | 320 | 16 GB GDDR6 | 2015 | 2250 | 256 bit | 128 MB |
RX 6800 XT has a base clock of 2015 MHz which boosts up to 2250 MHZ. It has 16GB GDDR6 memory with 256- bit memory interface and 128 MB infinity cache. The power consumption value for the GPU is 300W.
6800 XT will be directly competing against Nvidia’s RTX 3080. AMD also showed some gaming benchmark comparing both GPU during the launch.
RX 6800 has a lower base clock of 1815 MHz and a boost clock of 2105 MHz. With lower clock speed, power consumption is also reduced to 250W.
The new flagship RX 6900 XT has the same clock speed and power consumption as RX 6800XT. However, it has 80 compute units as well as more texture units. AMD also compared their new flagship GPU with RTX 3090 for some gaming benchmarks.

This all benchmark is done by AMD so will still need to wait for the actual number till RX 6000 graphics cards officially become available. Additionally, you will also notice “Rage Mode” and “Smart Access Memory” enabled for AMD graphics cards.
What’s Smart Access Memory? First up, it’s only available when you use RX 6000 series GPU along with, AMD B550/X570 motherboard and Ryzen 5000 series processor. It allows the CPU to access all GPU RAM at the same time to boost the performance of your system. Rage mode allows you to do one-click overclocking.
AMD Radeon RX 6000 Release Date and Price
RX 6800 and 6800 XT will be available on November 18, 2020. The new flagship will release later on December 8, 2020. RX 6900 XT is priced at $999, RX 6800 XT at $649 and RX 6800 at $579.
